Splenda & Stevia
Stevia
zerO-carb!
We love this! Stevia is an amazing herb, that just happens to be sweet
(300 times sweeter than sugar). The FDA hasn't approved it as a sweetener
however, so it can only be sold and used as a nutritional supplement.
Which is fine, because it is actually good for you. I first heard about it
when a Naturopathic Physician recommended it to my diabetic son to help regulate
his blood sugar enabling him to cut down on his insulin use.
Different brands of Stevia taste different. Some have aftertaste, and some don't seem to. You also grow accustomed to it, and don't notice any aftertaste after while. We've tried them all, and offer what we've ended up with as being the best tasting. I personally use it in my strong morning coffee (I know, that's cheating on the diet - but I'm still losing weight anyway). I don't taste it at all. Nowadays, I notice the taste of Splenda more than stevia. I may have just gotten used to it, but it just taste like coffee and sugar to me (but I also use our gourmet vanilla in it, so maybe that completely covers up any aftertaste). Now there's the new Stevia Packets that everyone agrees tastes great, and they're easy to take with you.
Stevia is heat stable and can be used in cooking, and two Stevia cookbooks (see our cookbook section). Be careful when cooking or making frozen desserts though - you have to experiment with quantity depending on what you're doing with it. Also, check out our Stevia energy drinks on the Beverages page.

Splenda
For Atkins diet, low carb diets, Zone diet, Sugar Busters, Protein Power, low calorie diets, and diabetic low carboydrate sugar free foods use.
Most of our products are sweetened with Splenda. Splenda is the trade name for sucralose, an incredibly good modified sugar that doesn't have the reported side effects of other sweetners. No yucky aftertaste (if you don't go overboard), and it works properly for cooking and baking, although it loses some sweetness with very cold things like ice cream and shave ice. Finally approved by the FDA, Splenda is the most tested sweetener ever, having already been used in most other countries for about 10 years.
While pure Splenda is free of carbs, the packets and bulk Splenda do have carbs (one half grams of carb per teaspoon) because maltodextrin is mixed with it. The manufacturer makes it that way, and no one can get it otherwise (unless they are a manufacturer who wants to use splenda in their products). However, the Splenda tablets are zerO-carb.
